An excellent, warm vintage that gives a dense, sunny Alión. Opaque purple-garnet. A powerful nose of ripe blackberry and blueberry, liquorice, roasted coffee and a mineral background; the modern oak ageing spot on. A full, fleshy, enveloping palate with ripe tannins and a long, spicy finish. Polished Ribera power; an Alión for hearty meats, already a real pleasure.
Around 14–16 months in new French oak barrels, followed by bottle ageing before release.
Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) 100%.
Sirloin, rib-eye, small game, lamb stews and semi-cured cheeses.
16–18 °C. Decant for at least 30–45 minutes.
