Alión was born in 1991 with a mission different from Vega Sicilia's: to explore a more modern, direct style of Tempranillo in Ribera del Duero. Without giving up absolute quality, Alión focuses on fruit, varietal expression and a shorter but equally impeccable ageing.
The 2020 vintage of Alión is brilliant. A year with very favourable conditions for Tempranillo: a wet winter that replenished the aquifers, a mild spring and a warm summer with cool nights that extended ripening. The grapes reached the winery with perfect phenolic ripeness, giving a wine of great colour density, explosive fruit and a structure that invites both early enjoyment and cellaring.
Deep, intense dark-cherry red. A nose of great fruit expression: raspberry, blackberry and plum, with elegant notes of toasted oak, coffee and spices. A powerful, fleshy, well-structured palate. Firm but ripe tannins. A persistent, balanced finish.
Grilled red meats, milk-fed lamb, furred game, cured Iberian charcuterie. Pasta with meat sauces. Semi-cured cheeses.

Optimal ageing until 2032–2035.

14–16 months in new French oak barrels. A more modern, fruit-driven style than Vega Sicilia, but with the same absolute standards.
Selected plots in Ribera del Duero. Altitude 750–850 m. Limestone and clay soils. Controlled yields.
Lying horizontally, at 12–16 °C, humidity 60–70%.
Until 2035. Enjoyable from now with 1 hour of decanting.
