Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 2005 — A long, humid autumn, ideal for the development of Botrytis cinerea. A vintage considered a benchmark for Tokaji, with very concentrated, aromatic and balanced wines.
An Aszú with twenty years behind it, in full golden maturity. Intense, luminous amber. An evolved, complex nose of dried apricot, dark honey, candied orange, saffron, quince and a background of caramel and nuts. On the palate the opulent sweetness is chiselled by still-vibrant acidity: unctuous yet fresh, with a very long finish of candied citrus and spices. Botrytised nectar at its peak; with foie gras, blue cheeses or as a wine for meditation.
Long ageing in traditional Hungarian oak barrels from the Tokaj area.
Mainly Furmint, with Hárslevelű and Sárga Muskotály.
Foie gras, blue cheeses, fruit pastries, citrus desserts, and as a pairing with champagne at dessert.
8–10 °C. Use a large white-wine glass to appreciate its aromas.
