Único 2011 — A warm, sunny, very ripe year. One of the most powerful Únicos of the decade, with dense tannins and a long life in bottle.
If 2010 is balance, 2011 is muscle. A warm vintage that gave a darker, fleshier Único, deep and dark in colour. The nose goes to candied black fruit, pepper, leather, cedar toast and a touch of chocolate and cured meat. The palate is broad, dense and powerful, with abundant but polished tannins and well-wrapped alcoholic warmth; it finishes long, savoury and spicy. It needs air and a large glass to tame its strength; it has a long way to go.
More than ten years from harvest to release: six in oak barrels (new and used) and three to four in bottle.
Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) around 95% and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Noble red meats (aged beef, oxtail, big game), black truffle, squab and great aged cheeses.
16–18 °C. Long decanting —at least two hours— for wines with medium ageing; double decanting recommended for older vintages.
